What We’re Growing This Year

Follow along as we attempt to grow zinnia’s this year! These full sun flowers will be started indoors, under grow lights, roughly 5 weeks prior to the last frost for our climate zone. We will be growing Zinderella Peach, Queen Red Lime (pictured to the left), Zinderella Lilac, and Isabellina varieties this year. They are scheduled to be in full bloom mid-July through the first fall frost. Check out our blog to see how the zinnia’s are growing!

Gomphrena will be a filler flower to watch this year! We will be starting gomphrena from seed indoors roughly 7 weeks prior to the last frost for our climate zone. The gomphrena is scheduled to bloom late summer through early fall. We are planning to grow both Qis Pink(pictured) and Qis Cream varieties. Check out our blog to see our gomphrena journey so far!

I am most excited for our cosmos’s this year (every parent has a favorite child right?) These romantic/delicate annuals are reliable, productive, and simple to grow. We will be direct sowing all our Cosmo seeds this year, outdoors, after the last frost for our climate zone. We are planning to grow Xanthos, Afternoon White(pictured), and Cupcake Blush varieties this year. The cosmos should be in full bloom in the summer of 2024.

Eucalyptus is our second filler flower for the year. Native to Australia, eucalyptus can be challenging to start in a colder climate, therefore we will be starting these plants indoors 10-12 weeks prior to the last frost for our climate zone. We will be growing the silver dollar variety of eucalyptus this year. See our blog to follow along on our eucalyptus journey this year!

Our fifth and final flower type of the year is the snapdragon. We will be purchasing snapdragon saplings this year, and direct planting them outdoors after our last frost. These flowers bloom in early June typically, slow down in July/August when temperatures are at their peak, then re-bloom September through November once temperatures have dropped again. We are growing the Madame Butterfly variety of snapdragon this year.
